Overview

Recording the meeting with and learning from leaders who have forged the world including Lee Kunhee, Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, Klaus Schwab, Hermann Simon and Marc Benioff
《Encounters with Great Minds》 shares the meetings of former KT chairman, Hwang Changgyu, with renowned figures around the world and what he learned from them as he led Samsung Electronics, worked as the nation's CTO (chief technology officer) and as KT Chairman, providing the engine for national economic growth. It contains the lively voice of a person who worked for around 30 years as a challenger, main player and then a firm supporter in the scene of technological innovation.
The author of this book led Samsung Electronics, which was a late-comer in the semiconductor field, to become the No. 1 in market share. He traversed the stage of the world to find the source of Korean prosperity as a nation's CTO, and transformed the stagnated telecommunications company KT that targeted only Korea into a global platform company. He talks about the crises and the moments of opportunities, the meeting and communication with countless world leaders throughout his career. In that scene, he cooperated with Lee Kunhee, Steve Jobs, Tim Cook, Hermann Simon, Klaus Schwab, Marc Benioff, Eric Schmidt among other world leaders.
This book is a record of the time of meeting with and learning from various leaders of the world who dreamed, challenged and realize a new world. This book was made hoping that Hwang's experience would be of great help for someone.

About the Author

Hwang Changgyu is known as the person who stated that "the capacity of semiconductor increases by twice every year," which is known as "Hwang's Law." We can't talk about the history of Korean semiconductors without mentioning his name. "Hwang's Law" surpassed the existing "Moore's Law" and became to be acknowledged as the new theory of memory chip development.
In Samsung Electronics, he assumed several positions related to the semiconductor area, and until he became the president, he left many "world's firsts" records including the development of the world’s first 256M DRAM. While working as the Chairman of KT, he was the world’s first to complete the preparation for the 5G service, earning the reputation as "Mr. 5G" at the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum). In addition, he promoted the Global Epidemic Prevention Platform (GEPP). The GEPP received a warm response at the World Economic Forum, and after the outbreak of COVID-19, KT worked to devise the epidemic prevention system for the next generation in cooperation with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Receiving the bachelors and master’s degree in electrical engineering at the Seoul National University, he received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, became the general manager of semiconductors at Samsung Electronics, the 1st National R&D Strategic Development leader (CTO) and the Chairman of KT.
