Overview

A series of images travel through the four seasons, revealing the gradual accumulation of things in the home and out in nature. The story begins energetically in spring with Grandma’s kitchenware, Grandpa’s potted plants, the neighbor’s mother-of-pearl dresser, and with rolls of gimbap packed for a spring picnic. The world grows lush in summer with Auntie’s studio, Mom’s cabinet, summer watermelons, and parasols on the beach. Autumn begins with Auntie’s finished paintings and fills the heart with images of fresh-dried laundry, cabbages, the autumn breeze, and the crunching of fallen leaves. The book ends with scenes of winter: warm tea and books, a frozen river, the savory smell of fish-shaped pastries, people on their way home, and fluffy snowflakes filling the world.
